INSTALLING NON-WOVEN WALLPAPER

Preparation of the substrate

  • The substrate must be dry, clean, slightly absorbent and even.
  • Remove the old wallpaper. We recommend Arte Easypro.
  • Sand off old, loose paint layers and remove the sanding dust. If the wall is uneven, it must be levelled.
  • Degrease the walls if necessary.
  • The walls must be pH neutral. Otherwise they must be neutralised.
  • Treat the walls with an appropriate fixative. It is recommended to apply a high-quality water-based primer afterwards.
  • Do not hang wallcovering on walls that are not sufficiently dry. This may cause discolouration and the adhesive may not provide sufficient adhesion.
  • If the colour of the substrate differs greatly from the colour of the wallcovering, it is recommended to first paint the wall with an adhesive primer in a similar shade to the new wallcovering.

Adhesive

Arte Clearpro or a good quality dispersion adhesive.

Hanging

  • Due to the nature of the material used, some wallcoverings require extra attention during installation. Some examples include: wallcovering with flock, glass beads, mica, etc.
  • Check the wallcovering for faults before handling. Notify the manufacturer should faults be visible.
  • Only hang rolls next to each other if they have the same batch number.
  • If the rolls are numbered, respect this numbering when hanging. Number the strips in the order they come off the roll and in the order of roll number.
  • Cut the strips to size: measure the height of the wall and add 5-10 cm (2-4”) at the top and bottom to determine the length of the strip. If the wallcovering has a pattern: take the pattern repeat into account when calculating the length of the strips.
  • Place a cross on the back to indicate the top of the strip.
  • Wrinkles or damage to the material must be avoided at all times.
  • Brush the back of the strip. This removes loose glass beads or mica particles.
  • Use the correct roller to apply the adhesive to the wall evenly.
  • Allow the adhesive to dry a little so the initial tack increases. This can be helpful with heavier wallcovering.
  • Don’t roll up the strip. This increases the chance of glass beads being released and ending up in the adhesive. This will cause bulges after hanging.
  • Use a plumb line when hanging the first strip.
  • Rub the strip gently with a rubber roller. DEFINITELY DO NOT USE A SPATULA.
  • Roll the seam with a soft seam roller. Avoid getting adhesive stains on the wallcovering.
  • Cut off the excess material at the top and bottom with a sharp snap-off knife and a smoother.
  • Check the result for faults after hanging 3 strips of wallcovering. Should there be any visible faults, stop the work and notify the manufacturer.
  • Remove any adhesive residue immediately by dabbing with a damp microfibre cloth and clean water. Do this after hanging each strip and before the adhesive has dried.
  • Always finish a wall completely before starting the next wall.
